The Hosta trio was formed on the Isle Of Benbecula, which is situated in the remote Western Isles of Scotland, in late 2012, whilst all members were studying music at Lews Castle College, Benbecula. The trio is comprised of fiddler Euan Smillie, guitarist Craig Irving and drummer Greg Barry.

The group plays both traditional and contemporary tunes from around the world, also including self-composed pieces with a wide range of influences.

Fiddler of the group, Euan Smillie, has played as far afield as New York and Italy and is also currently a member of Scottish Neo-Trad group The Elephant Sessions. Drummer, Greg Barry, plays alongside Euan in The Elephant Sessions and is a highly regarded up and coming drummer and singer in the Scottish folk scene. Guitarist of the group, Craig Irving, has recently begun studying music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, specialising in Scottish Traditional music.

The trio will be performing music they have composed and arranged whilst living in the Outer Hebridies.

In Junior ignite, the Royal Albert Hall works with Music for Youth to give talented young musicians from around the UK a unique performance opportunity at the Hall.
